Summary: This hotel is one of the UK’s most beautiful villages. Outwardly the property is stunning, Inside it’s less impressive. This place could be one the most beautiful hotels in the world. When we checked in we asked, (and apologised for the dumb question), if there was a reliable taxi service in the area as we had a dinner reservation 20 mins away. We were told that yes there was a good service, just book 30 minutes in advance. Some had a glass of wine in the bar and then were told there were no taxis! My wife and I spent 45 minutes trying and finally found one. All the local numbers told us that the hotel had put our number in the WhatsApp taxi chat! We ordered drinks in the bar and the barman spilled the wine down our glasses, plonked them on the bar in front of us without any offer to clean or replace them, I had to ask him for a napkin to dry them before we picked them up. Upon entering the bar I asked one of the staff, a surly fellow, for the Wi-Fi code, he didn’t even look at me just pointed me back in the direction I came and muttered “reception” We were going to order room service for breakfast one morning but the sight of one the servers walking to one of the rooms with a tray of coffee and taking a few hits from his vape which he kept in his shirt pocket changed my mind! One of the blinds in the room wouldn’t close properly, close inspection revealed it had been broken and had a botched repair which was so obvious I don’t know why house keepers hadn’t reported it.
