There is nothing like waking up to the quiet still water of Hood Canal before anyone else is up. You may see a seal or a heron or an eagle--or an early morning kayaker. As you stand in the kitchen making coffee, you look out the kitchen window across the Canal. In the distance are the eastern edge of the Olympic Mountains--bare in summer and fall, snow-capped in winter and spring.
The beauty of a stormy day is yet another joy. Cozy inside, looking out the large windows at the storm. And the fireplace lends an ambiance that draws you to the couch with a good book.
Of course, on a warm, sunny day the water is inviting; and there is a swim float. After your swim you can rinse off in an outdoor shower on the side of the house. The deck is a great place to spend time together in the sun, and an awning can provide shade. When the tide is out you can pick oysters on the beach (they say only in a month that contains an "R").
We do not have a dock but we do have a swim float for when the tide is in. There is also a buoy for securing your boat. A stairwell leads to the beach and water. At low tide the beach is covered with oyster shells, and footwear is strongly suggested. There are some clogs and aquasox available in a wooden bin on the deck just outside the sliding glass door.
