Private & quiet, located at 3800 ft in a cove surrounded by hundreds of acres of conservancy land and the Pisgah National Forest. It's cool here when it's roasting elsewhere. The Appalachian Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway are nearby, as well as trout fishing, and nearby rafting that's suitable even for little kids.
There is a majestic view of the mountains. We have apple trees, blueberries, a pond, and two creeks. Listen to songbirds & owls, look for wild turkey and deer, sit by a creek & read, etc.
The road to the Guesthouse is paved and the house is fully equipped and well-appointed with a queen bed and a La-Z-Boy pullout w/ deluxe air mattress insert in the living room. High-speed WiFi internet. HDTV with Roku streaming. Starbucks French Roast, coffee grinder, and French Press pot are provided.
Pets are allowed off-leash to run around. I find lots of tennis balls in the creek!
Road cycling for the serious bicyclist, from a challenging trip to the top of the Roan to a relatively flat ride along the river. The Appalachian Trail at Carver's Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway are 20 miles away. If you're too tired to hike, it's a beautiful drive.
This area is known for its artists and Penland School of Crafts, the oldest craft school in the country. There are hundreds of artists' studios in the area.
Bakersville, which is tiny, has two world-class galleries, some other small galleries, and a few restaurants.
Nearby towns Spruce Pine and Burnsville have more galleries, and more restaurants most of which are detailed in our welcome book.
